The system of Rainwater harvesting has been made compulsory in all private and government schools and colleges.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a state cabinet approved the Ground Water Act, 2020. The motive is to improve the falling groundwater level. 

Ground Water Act, 2020:
♦ Under the Ground Water Act, 2020, registration is compulsory to install submersible pumps. 
♦ The facility of online registration will also be available.
♦ The domestic users and farmers are not required to pay any fee.
♦ The system of Rainwater harvesting has been made compulsory in all private and government schools and colleges. 
♦ In the urban areas, if a landlord installs a submersible pump to build a house larger than 300 sqm area, then it will be mandatory to install the rainwater harvesting system. 
♦ If someone pollutes groundwater through boring pipes, then the punishment and penalty will be charged against him. 
♦ Boring companies must get their registration done. The companies should give all the information in every three months. 
♦ The government map and private buildings will be cleared only when they have a provision to install a rainwater harvesting system.
Punishments and Penalties:
♦ If a person is caught for the first time while polluting the groundwater level, he will receive punishment from 6 months up to 1 year and a penalty of Rs 2.lakhs to Rs.5 lakhs. 
♦ If caught for the second time, the penalty will be of Rs.5 lakhs to Rs.10 lakhs and punishment from 2 years to 5 years
♦ If a person is caught for the third time, then he will facea severe punishment from 5 years to 7 years and penalty from Rs.10 lakhs to Rs.20 lakhs.
