Former Indian Cricket team captain MS Dhoni has is inches closer to reach the historic milestone as he stands only 33 runs short of reaching 17,000 runs in international cricket. The former Indian cricketer, who has featured for India and Asia XI in international cricket has accumulated 16,967 runs.

Dhoni has scored these runs at an average of 45 from 528 matches. He records 16 centuries and 106 half-centuries in international cricket. He has scored 4,876 runs in Tests, 10,474 runs in ODIs and 1,617 runs in T20Is.

Ahead of Dhoni is Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Rahul Dravid (24,208), Virat Kohli (19,453), Sourav Ganguly (18,575) and Virender Sehwag (17,253) who have crossed the landmark of 17,000 runs in international cricket.

In the ongoing ODI series against Australia, Dhoni has scored an unbeaten 59 in the first match but disappointed with a duck in the second contest. However, Dhoni can make his hometown (Ranchi) appearance memorable and to give his fans a good to reason to celebrate.
