Maruti Suzuki recently issued a recall of 880 Ciaz mid-size sedans that were manufactured between 1 August and 21 September, 2018 to inspect and replace the speedometer assembly and the owner’s manual primarily on the Zeta and the Alpha diesel variants. The company is calling this move a “proactively undertaken service campaign” and has announced there is no security concern that the customers should worry about.
The dealers will be contacting the owners for the inspection and replacement of the the part without any additional charges. The “service campaign” that the company started back in October is only for the new Ciaz, which was launched on 20 August this year.
Maruti has said that customers who own the new Alpha and Zeta diesel Ciaz variants can check whether their vehicle is covered under this campaign by logging on to the company’s website. In order to do so, the customers will have to feed in their 14-digit chassis number on a special web-page the company has setup for this.
Now, the petrol motor on the Ciaz is all new. It is powered by a 1.5 litre K15B-series engine, which pumps out 105 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. It has a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission option. The petrol Ciaz is not a part of the recall exercise.
The diesel engine on the new Ciaz remains the same 1.3-litre turbocharged setup as before that makes 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque and offers 28 kmpl mileage, according to Maruti Suzuki.
The petrol and diesel variants of the Ciaz come with a smart-hybrid system. This more like a kill switch for the engine when it comes to a halt. This is a great feature when you are in heavy traffic and traffic signals, as it helps save fuel.
