A group of states is investigating Facebook for potential violations of antitrust law, the office of the New York attorney general said in a statement today.

The investigation is being led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, and it includes the attorneys general from Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia.

In a statement James said: “Even the largest social media platform in the world must follow the law and respect consumers. I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk.”

According to the statement the investigation will focus on whether Facebook endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers choices, or increased the price of advertising.

That agency is reportedly still investigating Facebook for other potential legal violations.
